Before you ask... The reason its called "MEGANAUT's SCP RPG" is because I found out only late in development that there's technically an official SCP RPG.
That's the only reason I put my name on it. To differentiate and not cause any confusions. Any sequels I would've wanted to make wouldn't have my name on the title.
Despite being one of my least favorite projects to work on, its also one of my oldest and better known projects.
SCP RPG originally started back in... Roughly 2015-2016? Ish? I vaguely remember wanting to make an SCP version of FNAFB(Five Nights At Fuckboys).
This game started roughly around... The same time as The Space Boneboy game, weirdly enough. I think they were both conceived in my mind at around the same time.
One was more focused on actual gameplay, the other being a shitpost. SCP RPG being that shitpost.
I wish I had the picture saved, but what sparked the development of SCP RPG was a jpeg(?) of Exidy and 682 (Its been years forgive me if I forget their names/numbers).
They were kinda frolicking/skipping and looking really happy and joyous and whimsical. It was an inspirational picture. So much so I tried to condense it into game form.
The titlescreen art (that is also at the top of this page) is based heavily on it with 682 and Exidy roughly doing the same pose. Its not as good but I tried to pay tribute to that picture.
Another source of inspiration was Creepypastaland RPG. A really shitty RPG game (series?) that mixed Creepypasta elements and SCP elements. Obviously something worth parodying.
Work started on the game and I had ended up making... Quite a bit of progress. All the way up until the snow forest level. Around a year's worth of progress.
But I dropped the project to focus on life and getting a job and all that. Right around 2019 is when I finished my webcomic Antagonist Super Society.
With nothing better to do and unsure where to go from there, I revisited SCP RPG. Revamped some graphics and finished the game (albeit a bit shortened than intended).
There's really nothing of note with the gameplay. If you played one RPGMaker game, then you're more than familiar with SCP RPG's gameplay.
It's turn-based. Got some generic moves. Animations aren't flashy. Made with plugins I barely understood. The whole works.
SCP RPG was made in RPGMaker MV specifically. There's no specific reason I picked that version other than I knew it well.
I had used a ton of VX Ace before I had used MV. It was almost 1:1 to VXA. For someone who didn't tinker in the programming aspect at all, this was good enough for me.
Well what's the story then? Easy.
SCP-somenumbers (I forgot), aka Exidy, has grown a pair of legs! He kicks some D-Class Ass and decides to free his friend SCP-682 (Liz) so they can party and take over the world!
Eventually he meets Fish Guy (another SCP Number I forgot) who tells them they can gather some pieces of a God thing that can grant wishes. Exidy and Liz decide to go for it and find the pieces.
Eventually SCP-173 (Statue that eats chips) and Plague Doctor (more numbers) join the party (without consent) and adventure onwards. And then shit happens!
Its not well-written at all, in case you haven't figured it out. I could write better in my sleep. Its just a series of "AND THEN THIS HAPPENS" over the course of the entire game.
Pretty much I came up with the idea of Exidy and Liz getting together to take over the world... And then thats it. That's all I knew. Everything else was improv'd. I made shit up as I went along.
I came up with the idea of the god pieces being the secret final boss pretty early on. But I had no idea how to get from Point A to Point B. The writing process was just "What if they went here?".
See, I'm a comedy writer by nature. So writing jokes and characters is pretty easy for me... Or at least, it is nowadays. Back then when I was a teenager I didn't know how to write shit and fuck.
SCP RPG might've helped me kickstart my comedy-writing, but its probably a very poor example of my writing overall. The premise... Exists! But its not built-up or anything.
Fish Guy quite randomly shows up and goes "oh btw theres a thing you can do kthxbye". Not subtle at all.
Some gags and jokes are... Still kind of funny to me, I won't lie. But a lot of the writing is definitely unpolished.
My favorite character in the game is definitely Fish Guy. I liked the joke that the absolute weakest SCP (quite literally just SOME guy) was the biggest shit-talker of the entire cast.
Completely and utterly unafraid of the main characters that could kill him in less than a second. Even when its revealed he tricked the cast and is essentially an antagonist, he still shows no fear.
I think SCP RPG is technically my most popular game I've done (as of 8/22/25 at least). A Polish youtuber named Gabor played through the ENTIRE game on his channel.
At the end, Gabor spoke English just to beg me to make a sequel.
To this day I still think about this and it genuinely gives me joy that I can make something that people want more of... Even if its one of my least favorite games.
I think there was another guy that played the game with a terrible microphone and overall had poor production quality. Someone named Dr. Gears, I think?
All I know for certain: Ever since Gabor played it, a lot of people from Poland downloaded and played the game. I joke with people sometimes that SCP RPG is hugely popular in Poland.
Despite not really being into SCPs nowadays... Nor really looking forward to working on another project like this...
I do still want to at least make one more sequel. Maybe even do a Creepypasta game. I would love to do that crossover game. That'd be neat.
If I do any of those things, it'd be for Gabor.
